Rebuilding Trust: From Kitchen Tables to Boardrooms

Your awareness is a form of leadership. Your ability to pause, listen, and contribute thoughtfully is how you build trust, where that's at the kitchen table or the professional boardroom. I sense a longing to build and rebuild this aspect of trust in our systems, our institutions, and in one another. This desire can be found in our dialogue with each other and our intentions with our relationships. In this podcast and blog episode, I explore how trust forms the foundation of both our personal and professional worlds. From family conversations around the kitchen table to leadership moments in the boardroom, I reflect on the shared human need for connection, honesty, and repair.

Rebuilding Trust: From Kitchen Tables to Boardrooms

It’s easy to look at the world’s issues and feel like it's too big to touch. However, large-scale change begins with small human systems.

3 STEPS to continually Build Trust

  • COMMUNICATE: The control room and the kitchen table are not that different.  Both should be centers of coordination and communication with leadership rooted in awareness and true humility. Make space for curiosity in conversations.

  • BUILD: Systems rely on trust as the unseen current that keeps things flowing, whether your family or your organization. It doesn't matter how sophisticated the tools are (especially in the world of AI), if the relationships that run them are flawed, there is bound to be an unravelling. Trust is an act of practice. It’s not given, it's grown. Apologize with humility to rebuild both personal and professional relationships when needed.

  • ENGAGE: When inner trust is low and we doubt ourselves, we start to over-function as a form of control that we should be flowing with instead. Choose to stay in the conversation even when it's uncomfortable. Systems don’t heal with avoidance. They expand and rebuild with participation and communication. Show up and be willing to build the skill of staying engaged when things get tough.

Trust is an act of practice.

Where is trust being called to be restored in your life? Whether with a family, colleague, or yourself, find where your energy needs to be restored and start there.
