What if you packed not just your suitcase but your intention? It can be a challenge to maintain mindfulness amid the chaos and fast-paced routines of life. Even in the shifting seasons of travel for work or summer family vacations, you can stay intentional with your life. Whether you're navigating a new season, a life stage, or a physical journey, it’s important to take time to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with your true self. In this episode of Integrated Being, we’ll explore how to stay grounded and intentional during life’s many transitions, especially while traveling.

How to Stay Grounded: Traveling with Intention

What routines ground you?

It can be easy to fall into whatever food and environmental influences are convenient, but traveling allows us to break up our usual routines and notice what energizes us and fuels our bodies and minds to feel at our best.

We are what we eat, breathe, wear, and scroll.

Be aware of what you put in, on, and around your body. Think through what will be available for you on your trip and where to place your energy and time in packing any essentials you may need to feel your best while traveling. The toxins and thoughts we surround ourselves with matter as much as what we eat and drink, so pay attention to how different environments shift your mood.

Seasonal changes can bring more friction.

Being aware of the tendency of the summer season to overwhelm and underwhelm our families can help to maintain a sense of peace amid the chaos. We can be going through relationship shifts while also going through seasonal shifts. Staying intentional with our daily habits can help ground us as we experience these continual shifts in life.

We may find more (or less) joy in things

Whether you’re roadtripping with the family, embarking on a solo trip of self-discovery, or just staring at your long to-do list, you may find your preferences for certain activities or influences may shift and change during these new seasons. It’s okay to let the things that once brought you joy but no longer bring you joy go for a while. You may return to them in a new season, or they may have served their purpose. Allow yourself to bring awareness to these changing preferences and release yourself from the need to control the outcome.

Travel As a spiritual practice

Who are you when your routines are challenged? Who are you when the script is gone? Travel allows you to step outside your daily life and see things from a new perspective. Peel back the layers of self-discovery that travel allows and be curious to learn new things about yourself during this time.

What am I choosing right now & is it aligned?

Relationships shift as we go through life, and that’s growth. It’s not failure, it’s growth and a natural progression of life. Ask yourself, “What does this season of life need right now?” It’s okay (and normal) for your needs to change in little ways throughout the seasons. Focus on what you are consuming in areas such as food and media, and how it impacts your energy and levels of joy. Am I choosing this from truth or from a habit? Adjust as needed.

Integrated Being isn’t about balance; it’s about awareness.

Are you in a season of blooming or rest? Living an integrated life isn’t about balance; it’s about awareness. We will shift and change and grow as we go through life, and things change around us. Our job is to choose alignment for ourselves in each new season, again and again.
