Meet TALOR STEWART

Architect & Author of Conscious Home Design

Talor Stewart is an award-winning architect and the author of Conscious Home Design. Over the past 20 years, he has developed the Conscious Home Design philosophy and system. In the book, he illustrates the principles in easy-to-understand ideas anyone can use to increase the flow, ease, and grace of their home. Talor has helped clients live a richer and fuller lifestyle by using design to support good health, positive relationships, and personal feelings of meaning, connection, and value.

“We are all unique, and every life has meaning and value. Everyone has the potential to uplift and help others. I believe the universe is alive and intelligent, and that life is inherently ‘spiritual.’ When we connect our inner spiritual lives to our outer physical life, magic happens. Conscious Home Design is about creating that magic - creating a place where we can connect - with ourselves, with our loved ones, with our sense of spirituality, and ultimately, the world around us in a beautiful, positive, and meaningful way. Conscious Home Design is about Connection. Connection and Creation.”
— Talor Stewart

An easy to read book presented in clear, jargon-free language, the ideas and principles conveyed within these pages will help any homeowner choose architectural designs and plans that best support your unique lifestyle habits, choices, and goals. Every chapter reveals how deliberate attention can transform living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, kitchens, and baths to support and actively help you achieve your dreams.

  • Have you ever thought, why do I feel so scattered at home even when everything is cleaned up?”

I introduce the episode and my guest Talor Stewart, architect and author of Conscious Home Design, and set the stage for our discussion on mind, body, spirit, and home design.

  • Talor Stewart:

    • Shares his perspective on mind-body-environment connection.

    • Emphasizes the importance of shaping spaces intentionally: “We shape our buildings and thereafter they shape us.”

  • Elizabeth:

    • Outlines what listeners can expect: Talor’s story, practical tips, and actionable steps for making a home more supportive.

    Talor:

    • Notes that even small changes in your home can be impactful, even for renters.

    • Childhood influences, early creative experiences, selling his first company, and returning to college at 25 to pursue architecture.

    • Philosophy: “There’s a blueprint behind all of life… chaos only seems chaotic; there’s an intelligence behind it.”

    • Architecture is about human experience, not just buildings.

    • Talor’s approach: help people feel more connected to themselves and their world.

    • I reflect on my sons’ life journeys and relates to Talor’s unconventional path.

    • Discussion of “inner GPS” and following one’s heart.

  • Talor:

    • References Ikigai and life purpose.

    • Discusses importance of relationships as the biggest predictor of happiness (Harvard Study of Adult Happiness).

  • Talor:

    • Defines three types of relationships: giving, receiving, reciprocal.

    • Explains how these can be intentionally encouraged in home design.

  • Examples:

    • Kitchen → giving relationships

    • Family room → reciprocal relationships

    • Bathroom → private space but can support giving/receiving/reciprocal relationships

    • Use plants, full-spectrum light, fish bowls, meaningful photos.

    • Creates low-maintenance, intentional micro-practices to foster connection and well-being.

  • Talor emphasizes conscious intention in daily life: even small actions (placing a photo, tending a plant) can accumulate impact over time.

    • Evaluate your home: Are there opportunities for giving, receiving, reciprocal relationships?

    • Make intentional, small shifts to create a supportive environment.
